Understanding the A.L.I.C.E. Workforce is an innovative Second Harvest Food Bank program.
This 3 hour training is a comprehensive approach to understanding the “tyranny of the moment” that ALICE workers experience caused by an unstable environment and an abundance of stress. Participants will learn about many causes of high turnover and a range of factors that create instability for employees, while learning about tools that employers, human resource professionals and managers can use to promote a stable workplace, reduce employee need for retraining and improve employee retention.

The learning objectives are:

  • Understand the patterns of living under-resourced and how this increases turnover
  • Understand that situational & generational poverty are not the same
  • Understand how to “play by the rules”
  • Understand how economic diversity affects behaviors and mindsets
  • Understand the barriers created by language and how to address these barriers
  • Understand why employees/employers often misunderstand each other
  • Identify ways in which the information can be used to improve relationships and outcomes: individual, organizational, and community
